It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere

It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere

On Thursday April 28th, the Freddie Awards will be held in Las Vegas and true to form—it will be spectacular. This years event will be held outdoors in the Toshiba Plaza, a two-acre park-like entertainment space adjacent to the new T-Mobile Arena located just off the Las Vegas Strip between New York-New York and Monte Carlo. This new arena by MGM Resorts International is expected to host more than 100 events annually, including: UFC, boxing, hockey, basketball and other sporting events, major headline entertainment, awards shows, family shows and special events. The Freddie Awards will be among the events it hosts during it’s grand opening in April! (we like to think that our opening act this year is The Killers, Wayne Newton and the reunion concert for Guns N’ Roses all of whom are also part of the T-Mobile Arena grand opening in April. But alas, they all play before us by days—we’re actually sandwiched between George Strait and Billy Joel concerts)

The event starts at 5 p.m. (PDT) and you will all be able to watch some of the results being announced and the festivities right here on freddieawards.com. Our sponsors and event planners are sure to make this years event something to remember and for once just might shake the notice that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

Airline Best Promotion for Earning [Americas] American AAdvantage

The top four finishers in this category are American AAdvantage, Air Canada Aeroplan, Delta SkyMiles and Southwest Rapid Rewards.

Suzanne Rubin, President, AAdvantage Loyalty Program accepts the Freddie.

American AAdvantage offered a Double Elite-Qualifying Miles promotion at the end of the year, just as members were scrambling to preserve or improve their status. Members could earn double elite-status qualifying miles for travel on American Airlines, American Eagle or AmericanConnection flights between Dec. 13, 2011 and Jan. 31, 2012 to earn the bonus, regardless of when the ticket was booked or purchased.

Airline Best Promotion for Earning [Middle East / Asia / Oceania] Jet Airways JetPrivilege

The top four finishers in this category are Jet Airways JetPrivilege, Etihad Guest, Virgin Australia Velocity and Gulf Air Falconflyer.

Accepting the Freddie Award for JetPrivilege is Siva Ramachandran, Regional Vice President – Americas.

JetPrivilege wins with a TripAdvisor promotion A Trip Well Advised, that offered members 500 bonus JPMiles for sharing three to six hotel reviews and 1,000 bonus JPMiles for sharing seven or more reviews.

Airline Best Promotion for Earning [Europe / Africa] Lufthansa Miles & More

The top four finishers in this category are Lufthansa Miles & More, Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and Air France/KLM Flying Blue.

Andreas Koch, Director Miles & More, accepts the Freddie.

Randy remembers this promotion – you could even earn elite status.

Europe’s multi-country frequent flyer program wins with its Miles & More Every Flight Counts promotion. Miles & More members were offered incentives based on flight frequency in addition to regular miles: starting from five flight segments, members earned a McDonald’s voucher, 10 flights a 20 euro promotion code for Lufthansa.com, 15 flights a flight award for 2,000 award miles, 20 flights a 50 euro promotion code for Lufthansa.com, 25 flights a business lounge voucher and 30 flights earned Frequent Traveller status.

Hotel Best Promotion for Earning [Americas] Starwood Preferred Guest

Finishing in the top four are Starwood Preferred Guest, Marriott Rewards, Hilton HHonors and Choice Privileges.

“SPG wins again! We kind of like getting resort nights for free,” says Randy.

“Thanks again, thank you.”

SPG wins this category with its SPG Getaway Free promotion. Free nights, in addition to the regular points earned, are always popular. For every three stays at an SPG hotel, members earned a night at a resort. Tying the free night to a strong portfolio of aspirational properties was a clear winner with members. And a free night every three stays was SPG’s most lucrative promotion in 2011.

Hotel Best Promotion for Earning [Middle East / Asia / Oceania] Accor A|Club

Accor A|Club, Starwood Preferred Guest, IHG Priority Club Rewards and Marriott Rewards take the final four spots.

“This promotion is pretty cool,” explains Randy. “The cash was donated to flood relief.”

“Thank you very much,” says Emilie Record, Le Club Accorhotels Marketing Executive, who comes up to accept the award.

By staying in an Accor hotel in Thailand, A|Club members earned double points and the points were converted to cash and donated to a special flood relief fund established by the Yim Kids Thailand Foundation.
