# Freddie Awards

> The Freddie Awards are travel loyalty's member-voted honors. Since 1988, frequent
> travelers have voted directly for the best airline, hotel and credit card loyalty
> programs. This site is the official record: 1138 award results across
> 37 ceremonies (1989–2026), plus ceremony history,
> program lineage, photography and newsroom coverage.

## Key facts

- Founded in 1988 by Randy Petersen, publisher of InsideFlyer, and named for Sir Freddie Laker.
- Winners are decided entirely by member votes — no judging panel. In an average year more than 4.2 million ballots are cast, in 13 languages.
- Voting runs in three regions: Americas; Europe & Africa; Middle East & Asia Pacific. Regional ballots began in 1997 and the current three-region structure arrived in 2005.
- Recurring categories include Program of the Year, Best Elite Program, Best Redemption Ability, Best Customer Service, Best Promotion, Up & Coming Program and Best Loyalty Credit Card.
- No ceremonies were held in 2021 or 2024. The 2010 and 2011 editions ran as the Frequent Traveler Awards.
- The trophy was a faceted obelisk until 2013, when it was redesigned by Society Awards as the modern cylindrical pillar.
