Frequent flyers love upgrades and they love discounted upgrades even more. Lufthansa takes home a Freddie Award for their Upgrade Discount promotion. During August and September, members could redeem miles for upgrades on flights between Germany and the U.S. or Canada for 40 percent fewer miles. Upgrades from full-fare tickets were 20,000 miles each way instead of the usual 35,000, and upgrades from discounted fares (V or higher) were 30,000 miles instead of the usual 50,000.
