Aeroplan gives status a little more shelf life

Airline status is a little like an avocado.

You work hard to get it, enjoy a brief period when it’s absolutely perfect, and suddenly it’s gone.

Aeroplan’s Status Extension Promotion gave members another option.

The promotion helped eligible Aeroplan members extend elite status, and Freddie voters named it Best Promotion in the Americas for 2023.

There was particular resonance to status extensions in the post-pandemic loyalty world.

Airlines had spent several years inventing ways to preserve relationships with customers who, through no fault of their own, weren’t flying very much.

By 2023 travel had returned.

So had the status treadmill.

Aeroplan recognized that some members could use a little more runway.

Freddie voters approved.

It also completed a three-award night for Aeroplan: Program of the Year, Redemption Ability and Promotion.

When the rebuilt Aeroplan arrived in 2020, Air Canada promised something ambitious.

Three years later, members were handing out trophies.
