Best Overall Promotion for a hotel program goes to Marriott's Rapid Reward.

It generated more favorable comments than any promotion on the ballot. Once a member hit the goal, every additional night paid 10,000 bonus points.

Members responded exactly as you would expect. Several told us they checked out of one Marriott and into the Marriott next door, purely to keep the meter running. One reader earned more than 500,000 bonus points during this promotion alone.

The Hilton HHonors promotion built around the American Express card finished second.

Rapid Reward also explains the sweep. It brought members into the program early in 1989 and gave them a reason to stay through the whole year.
