Marriott takes Best Redemption Ability in the Americas for 2023.

This category has become more interesting as hotel programs have moved away from the old world of fixed award charts.

Once upon a time, a hotel belonged to a category.

That category cost a certain number of points.

We complained about category changes.

Life was simpler.

Bonvoy’s move toward dynamic award pricing changed the equation, but Marriott retained one enormous advantage:

There are a lot of places to use the points.

Luxury properties.

Airport overnights.

Beach resorts.

Courtyards beside interstate exits.

Sometimes redemption ability isn’t about squeezing 2.37 cents from every point.

Sometimes it’s about finding a hotel where you actually need one.

Marriott’s giant footprint gives Bonvoy members an awful lot of dartboard.

In 2023 they hit the bullseye.
